Background/History:
Introduced as a kind, responsible younger brother, Ritsu succeeded in all things he put his hand to, and always offered his brother an ear if he was troubled. He was smart, handsome, popular; a schoolmate noted people truly weren't born equal, as all the blessings had been poured onto him and not his brother, plain and ordinary as can be, struggling with school and athletics, with no hobbies. Not leaving a mark anywhere, his elder brother Shigeo earned the nickname "Mob"; while Ritsu proceeded to be one of the most popular students in school while only a freshman. Mob didn't feel anything about this comparison that he knew existed, and was simply proud to have such a remarkable little brother, but Ritsu did. Contrary to what everyone else would think Ritsu felt infinitely inferior to Mob. This envy was because his brother had psychic powers, and Ritsu did not. As kids Ritsu had asked him if he thought he could someday also do these amazing things. Mob smiled exclaiming of course, they were brothers.
Years later and still not an esper, all the things he's ever done felt worthless to him; he was even irritated to know Mob disliked his power. It wasn't that he wanted much, it was that the one thing he wanted was impossible for him to attain. He met his first spirit, Dimple, who had previously tied himself to his Mob with the hopes to use him in his quest for godhood. Dimple said he could make him reach his brother's level and Ritsu took the bait. He hypothesized his power grows when he feels spikes of negative emotions. Ritsu began a terrible project with student council president Kamuro. He planted evidence of crimes on delinquent students to ostracize them entirely; with the toxicity of scapegoating his guilt grew, as did his power. When anyone tried to confront Ritsu he used his powers to knock them out. Kamuro began to suffer from being associated with him, and wanted to quit.
What snapped Ritsu back to reality was his brother's discovery of his actions. Ritsu wanted to fight Mob, feeling it would finally destroy the inferiority complex and fear he had of his brother for all this time. Mob refused. His acceptance stung more than any battle could've, he could only stand in stunned silence as his brother asked for the gangs' forgiveness. Then he's kidnapped by Claw. Mob and his friends rescue him before the dawn of the next day, Ritsu sobs upon rescue, crying how he hadn't even been allowed to apologize. Fast forward, Ritsu meets again with the boy who knocked him out at Claw, Shou. Ritsu had impressed him with his fearlessness, needing nothing less to stop his megalomaniac father. Unlike anyone else, Ritsu truly considered Shou a friend. Ritsu admits he knew what kind of feelings he must have had, to be related to someone with such great power, that if their morals went astray it was their responsibility to stop them.

Strengths:
- Intelligent -
Ritsu is deeply studious and analytical. He's naturally cautious and when emotions don't overwhelm him he tries to make a habit of looking before he leaps. And even when he does take a premature bound forward, he's a quick thinker on the go; this adaptability plays no small part in keeping him alive. Ritsu doesn't seem to know how to really chill when it comes to... anything, and he actively improves himself, at the cost of really knowing how to relax and have fun. Responsibility might as well be his middle name, to him a time well spent is being productive. He does have his fleeting moments of childhood innocence, like his enjoyment of sweets and still being fond of stage magic. Now if only he was smart enough to learn the meaning of a proper lifestyle balance and actually take a break. Guys, he literally doesn't listen to music. This is a canon fact. Who does that? Ritsu "No Fun Allowed" Kageyama does.
Devoted -
Although it takes some work or extremely special circumstances to get there, when Ritsu truly cares about people he would go to hell and back for them. When his big brother was working hard to impress his crush, Ritsu volunteered to do his chores, to which their mother chasted Ritsu that he was spoiling him. Asking Ritsu to be halfhearted in anything is an impossible request, he's an all-or-nothing type of boy. He admires people who have a deep aspiration that they work hard towards despite all odds, it's why he admires his big brother's earnest nature so much. And even when he does get frustrated by his clashing tactics with his more "punch first then let's just wing it" friend Shou, he does his best with what he has and doesn't let inner exasperation ruin the bigger picture. In a more dangerous note, his determination and loyalty to those who earn it allow him to put his life on the line without thinking twice, and he want to be by a friend's side even when defeat seems inevitable.
Contemplative -
As a teenager, he spends a lot of time in his own head. He looks at different angles and his curiosity pushes him to find answers. Unfortunately, he tends to be judgmental and a pessimist as well when it comes to others' character, thus making him prefer depending on himself more than anyone else. Communication isn't his strong suit, and he's more likely to give out his thoughts straightforwardly than enact a proper conversation. The unknown scares him more than most, giving him a jumpy side. He enjoys having some semblance of control over himself and his direct environment. Because of the trauma from his childhood when his big brother lost control of his power, Ritsu very easily thinks of worst case scenarios. But he also does come up with countermeasures ahead of time, to the best of his ability.
Weaknesses:
- Impulsive -
Ritsu doesn't care if someone's very obviously bigger and stronger than him if he's annoyed enough he will let them know how much he hates their guts with a sharp quip. Even when obviously outmatched, Ritsu also doesn't have the common sense to back down unless forced to by someone dear to him. More than once, he ends up in situations that could kill people. His strong reactions are what prevent him from being true to the impression he gives of maturity; they just don't see the fallout of when the emotions spill. On the upside, this was how he made his first best friend, who admired his true form in facing things head on even when the situation is dire. Fear does exist for Ritsu, but it's defeated by other stronger feelings. Sometimes, sure, it might be the need to protect, but with Ritsu, he's additionally fueled by some spite and other negative feelings. (He literally tries to strangle a bully messing with his brother using the bully's own tie, he might actually have the capacity to murder someone someday if he's not careful, please do not mess with Mob.)
Misanthropic -
Even if he's great at faking pleasantries in day-to-day living, extended conversations and genuine heart-to-hearts are rare with Ritsu. Even with his popularity he is very self-alienated from his peers, which likely comes in part with how he tends to be condescending to most people he meets, even when pleasant on the outside. He's not competitive as a default state, but with certain individuals he is actively antagonistic. Generally, he has a hard time really caring about people, his default state being somewhat apathetic if it's anything less than life-threatening, and only really tolerating company at best instead of enjoying it. While most likely aware of this flaw, he makes no large steps in correcting it within canon. He has a really hard time relating to most people, his age or otherwise. Fortunately, he's at least not the type to easily become lonely so he rarely feels an immense need for companionship.
Insecure -
Despite himself and all his abilities, he is still just a young boy who has spent most his life with an inferiority complex that only a few people know about, with majority only seeing the perfect student with a bright future. In combination with how small his social circle is and how he doesn't correct his parents' preconceptions, when he is left to his own devices Ritsu is filled with self-doubt, and lashes out at those who attempt to get too close not on his own terms. On first impression Ritsu seems wise beyond his years, but those who look close enough will notice he is absolutely just a child. He won't like it if anyone points that out, either.
Powers/Abilities:
- Ghost Sight -
A passive ability so to speak, all espers are able to see and speak with ghosts, but they are sparsely placed in series canon aside from the evil ones (but not all are bad, some are just lonely or minding their own business). According to Dimple, they are likelier to manifest when dying with a grudge, something that ghosts can smell. It is ambiguous if all ghosts are from people or if some are just monsters. Ghosts are able to cannibalize each other to become stronger.
Telekinesis -
Ritsu is able to make things float, and apply psychic force onto them, his earliest demonstration being the classical "bending the spoons" trick. He can apply this push or pull to people as well, forcing them to the floor or to a wall. During a particularly heated moment he even began choking someone bullying his brother with the guy's own tie with telekinesis. Though Ritsu is a powerful esper enough so that normal people cannot stand up against him in a fight, he is still the weakest among the main character espers due to his inexperience and has no specialized psychic techniques.
Resilience -
Not outright stated but implied with how often the poor kids get into scrapes, espers seem to be sturdier than normal humans, and though they take a lot of beatings, their parents somehow don't really question it, so perhaps they also have an accelerated rate of healing. As this latter note is only speculation, it won't really be used in-game, it's just a useful note to have that getting thrown across buildings isn't going to result in hospitalization.
Jump Boost -
Implied twice so far, Ritsu has entered a home through a second-floor window and stood at a high post to look cool
Exorcism -
With application of psychic power, ghosts can have their tie to the current world severed by espers. This can be done by both violent means and peaceful ones, with the former being the more regularly seen in-series due to said ghosts being malicious and attacking first.
Psychic Barrier -
One of the basic esper techniques. A barrier can be placed by espers so that physical attacks cannot directly harm them. This can be shattered by other espers, and presumably other magical and superhuman abilities in the context of a crossover. Majority of espers cannot hold up a barrier and attack at the same time.
Defense from Possession -
Another passive esper ability is that they have naturally higher defenses against being possessed by evil spirits. They can however willingly welcome a ghost into their body if they want to (Ritsu does this in canon, but Dimple is by then too weakened to control him, foiling his plan to hijack his body). Stronger spirits might be able to break past this defense.
Other Noteworthy Traits:
- Academics -
Ritsu effortlessly scores perfectly on several of his tests, and is considered one of the brightest minds among middleschoolers in his nation, acing the national exam. He is able to speak with adults as an intellectual equal, oftentimes veering into rudeness when he doesn't like them. He's encyclopedic, and doesn't forget things easily. --Unless they're names. Sorry irrelevant persons. And even classmates.
Athleticism -
Ritsu doesn't necessarily have a passion for sports, but is said to do well at them (his specialty being the short distance sprint), and he's fit enough so that he scored among the top 10 in the school in their marathon run, only behind upperclassmen explicitly in sports clubs. He was also able to carry his unconscious big brother on his back, but if it was with some psychic power assistance is unclear.
Allure? -
Even without knowing how to really talk to people for extensive periods or make friends, Ritsu has many fans who like to admire him from a distance, and several students have a romantic interest he doesn't reciprocate. He's implied to be one of the two most popular students in school. With awareness it's probably just because of his appearance or accomplishments, an idealized Ritsu he's very far from, it makes each Valentine's Day vaguely distressing.
Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
On his person is spoons because he's Just That Freak who has to carry spoons all the time. (They're for bending.) He's wearing a hoodie as per the canon point's events. The item that's being brought in is his school uniform, with the student council band.
Color: Go ahead and color pick something from his aura! He's the one in blue.
Sample: TDM 1, TDM 2
World Aspect:
Spirits in Mob Psycho, particularly the weaker ones are probably a safe addition to the game, just the right amount of creepy, mostly just being small inconveniences. Examples include a face that refuses to be removed from a wall, a face that refuses to be removed from a person, little deceased animals who make your shoulder feel heavy because they're sitting on it. They can also cannibalize each other to become stronger, but for the sake of not being an overwhelming presence, that can be foregone unless for events. Those with special powers or purified salt can exorcise them!
